The jersey finger test evaluates for avulsion of the flexor digitorum profundus. With the hand resting on a table and the distal phalanx hanging off the edge, the examiner stabilizes the patient’s finger and hand to isolate movement. The patient is then asked to actively flex the affected finger. The test is considered positive if there is an absence of flexion at the distal interphalangeal joint.
