Castle Stalker's history is marked by a turbulent, back-and-forth ownership between the MacDougalls and Stewarts before passing to the Campbells in 1620, with notable events including its use as a garrison during the 1745 Jacobite Rising and a famous drunken bet where a Stewart lost the castle to a Campbell. After being abandoned around 1780 and losing its roof, it was extensively restored in the late 1960s by Lt. Col. Stewart Allward, whose family still owns it. #scotland #castle #history #disc

Castle Stalker on Loch Laich, an inlet off Loch Linnhe in Appin, is believed to have been built much in it's present form around 1446 by Lord of Lorn, Sir John Stewart. Now owned by the Stewart Allward family, we believe tours are available. What we do know for sure, is that the views are spectacular, and the Castle Stalker View Cafe & Gift Shop, as well as excellent food, has an envious location with panoramic views of Castle Stalker and Loch Linnhe.
