Calf raises are great, but this isn’t a calf raise. Are you ignoring this important muscle in your leg? This is a soleus raise, and it matters more than most people realize. The soleus plays a huge role in Achilles pain, ankle pain, foot pain, and recurring calf injuries. A straight-leg calf raise mostly hits the gastrocnemius. Every time I post something about calf raises lately, there will be at least one comment about how I should be bending my knee to target the soleus. I used to tell people this too, but now the research of late has been showing the soleus gets challenged equally with a straight vs a bent knee calf raise. So mix it up a bit but just make sure you go heavy! And definitely skip the seated calf raise with a dumbbell on your thigh. Unless you can get at least your bodyweight on your thigh it’s not a g
