Neptune appears blue because of methane gas in its atmosphere, which absorbs red and infrared light and reflects blue light. While the planet's blue color is a result of this atmospheric composition, Neptune's bright, white clouds are composed of frozen methane ice and form at high altitudes. These clouds can also appear yellow or red if they are exceptionally high and are not as affected by the methane absorption."
