🎾On June 22, 1981 in the first round of the Wimbledon Men’s Singles Championship against Tom Gullikson, John McEnroe shouted the now-famous "You cannot be serious!" to the chair umpire in response to a serve being called "out." McEnroe was fined U.S. $1,500 and came close to being thrown out after he called umpire Ted James "the pits of the world" and then swore at tournament referee Fred Hoyles. It made little difference in the end as McEnroe went on to win in straight sets to begin a campaign
