Deconstructing the Capitol. The current Texas State Capitol building in downtown Austin has brought legislators, government workers, and tourists alike to the site since its celebratory opening in 1888.

The hinges and other Capitol hardware feature incised designs of geometric and stylized floral motifs. This reflects the shift from the Renaissance Revival style of the building's interior architecture to the cleaner and more modern Aesthetic Movement for its decorative details.

Neo-Renaissance is a mixture of Renaissance and Henry II styles and has mainly Roman and Greek features (Marc Maison website).

The carved wood door frames of the Texas Capitol are emphasized with elaborate, custom-designed bronze hinges and hardware produced using glass molds especially for the building by Sargent and Co. of New Haven, Connecticut, in the late 1880s.

This hand-drawn exterior and interior elevation showing the finish and construction of the dome was made by the first architect of the Texas Capitol, Elijah E. Myers (1832–1909). The Texas Capitol was completed by Chicago architect Gustav Wilke in 1888.
