Pemberley is the fictional country estate owned by Fitzwilliam Darcy, the male protagonist in Jane Austen 's 1813 novel Pride and Prejudice. It is located near the fictional town of Lambton, and believed by some to be based on Lyme Park, [1] south of Disley in Cheshire.

Jan 1, 2025 · Pemberley House is a country estate that is owned by Fitzwilliam Darcy in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. It’s based in Derbyshire near the town of Lambton and is where Elizabeth visits with her aunt and uncle on their trip to the Peak District.

In the 1995 miniseries adaptation, Lyme Park, in Cheshire, served as the exterior of Pemberley, and Sudbury Hall in Sudbury, Derbyshire. In the Pride and Prejudice (2005) adaptation, Chatsworth House was used for the exterior scene.

Of all of the locations in Pride and Prejudice, Pemberley is offered the most attention to description and detail. This is, of course, a result of Elizabeth journeying to this property some time after rejecting Mr. Darcy's first proposal.
