The Ottawa Senators were an ice hockey team based in Ottawa, which existed from 1883 [1] to 1954. The club was the first hockey club in Ontario, [5] a founding member of the National Hockey League (NHL) and played in the NHL from 1917 until 1934.

This logo was formed when the team was independent and called the Ottawa Hockey Club. They joined the NHA in 1910, and left for the newly-formed NHL in 1917. The team, by now officially using the Senators name, introduced this logo.

The Senators have had several different logo designs during the franchise's 29 year history. Prior to the 1950s, many teams did not have formal logos. In that case, a photo of their jersey or their team colors is shown below.

The original Senators existed from 1883 to 1934. In 1990, the Ottawa-native businessman bid to the NHL to establish a new franchise with the old name and the old black-and-red-and-white color scheme.
