Immigration officials surrounded Ozturk in Massachusetts on March 25 and drove her to New Hampshire and Vermont before putting her on a plane to a detention center in Basile, Louisiana.
The ACLU said Ozturk was driven to Methuen, then Lebanon, New Hampshire and then St. Albans, Vermont, before she was flown to the Louisiana detention center, where she is currently being held.
The Democrat delegation, led by Rep. Troy Carter of Louisiana traveled to Jena, where Khalil is being held, and then two hours south to Basile, where Ozturk is detained.
Ozturk added that during her time in the detention center in Louisiana her university lab mates read her books over the phone. She said she’s excited to get back to her studies.
