An Exxon Mobil-led oil consortium has returned 2,534 square kilometers of the Stabroek Block in Guyana back to the government, the Ministry of Natural Resources said in a statement on Wednesday.
The release said that an area of 2,534 square kilometres has been relinquished to Guyana as agreed upon between the Government of Guyana and the Stabroek Block operator.
The preparations come as both companies await a decision in a legal challenge from larger rival ExxonMobil that will make or break the $53-billion deal.
