Hurston Waldrep pitched six scoreless innings in a combined two-hitter and Nacho Alvarez Jr. and Michael Harris II each drove in a run, giving the Atlanta Braves a 2-0 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night.

Right-hander Slade Cecconi, one of the reasons for the Guardians’ revival, took it on the chin for the second straight start. Cecconi (5-6, 4.50) allowed eight runs, six earned, on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Before Saturday night’s game against Atlanta, the Guardians surprised Hamilton by inducting him into their ‘Distinguished Hall of Fame”. The surprise induction came on Tom Hamilton Night in which he was honored as the 2025 Ford C. Frick winner, for broadcasting excellence.
