Flying Mohawk will not run in Friday's Grade 1 Belmont Derby at Saratoga after undergoing emergency colic surgery early Thursday morning, co-owner Jayson Werth announced via X (formerly Twitter).

Final Gambit debuted on turf and Flying Mohawk made his first five starts on turf. Both were supposed to get back on turf in Friday’s Grade 1 $750,000 Belmont Derby but Flying Mohawk will scratch.

Flying Mohawk was a $72,000 purchase at the 2023 Keeneland September Yearling Sale and is out of the Twirling Candy mare Bonbons Fleur, a half-sister to dual graded stakes-winner Change of Control.
