Sony Group Corp. shares surged after it was said to be mulling spinning off its semiconductor unit, raising expectations that such a move would unlock value in the Japanese entertainment and electronics company.

Bloomberg reports that the tech conglomerate, which is looking to streamline its operation and recently began spinning off its financial arm, may list their semiconductor manufacturing arm as early as this year.

Sony is considering a spinoff and listing of its semiconductor business as soon as this year, Bloomberg News reported, citing anonymous sources.
