Attorney General Pamela Bondi announced Tuesday she will seek the death penalty for Luigi Mangione for the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Mangione, faces federal charges for stalking and killing Thompson as well as the use of a silencer in a crime of violence,

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi said she has directed prosecutors to seek the death penalty against Luigi Mangione in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

The death penalty is also banned in the District of Columbia and in 22 other states, aside from New Jersey. In New York, the death penalty was outlawed in 2004 by a state court ruling. This means that New York prosecutors cannot pursue the death penalty in the case of Luigi Mangione.
