John Beam, a legendary football coach featured on Netflix's "Last Chance U" and the Laney College athletic director, has died, one day after being shot on the Oakland, California campus.

John Beam, a coach and father figure who has tutored generations of athletes at Oakland's Laney College, was shot in the head on campus on Thursday.

Thursday's incident came a day after a student was shot at Oakland's Skyline High School. The student is in stable condition. Police say they arrested two juveniles and recovered two firearms. Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee said she was “heartbroken” by “the second shooting on an Oakland campus in one week.”

Attempted murder charges have been filed against two Skyline High School students in the Wednesday shooting of a classmate in a campus bathroom, authorities said Friday.
