Newark Airport travelers share frustrations over airport flight delays amid government shutdown
Newark Liberty International Airport saw over 120 flights cancelled on Sunday, with some delays spilling over into JFK International Airport and LaGuardia Airport.
Air traffic controllers missed their paychecks Tuesday because of the ongoing government shutdown, and that has Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and the head of the controllers’ union concerned that flight delays could multiply as increasingly stressed-out controllers call out sick.
Officials there said a staffing shortage was to blame for delays Sunday of up to three hours and a ground stoppage.
Passengers at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey can expect flights to be delayed by an average of 40 minutes, the FAA said.
