Gas prices moved ever so slightly overnight as the average price of regular unleaded gasoline reached $4.368 per gallon for Tuesday, Oct. 6. That’s up less than one cent from Monday’s average of $4.365, according to AAA.
This is the first October on record with a national average above $4 per gallon. Although prices have fallen slightly over the last seven days, drivers are still paying 21 cents more per gallon than they were a month ago. A year ago, the average price was $3.11 per gallon, meaning drivers are now paying $1.25 more per gallon, an increase of 40%.
Gas prices stand above $4.30, marking an increase of 46% from pre-war levels.
Gas prices look like they'll be at historic highs for Election Day, but prices may come down a bit from where they are now.
Many gas station brands get their fuel reviewed and tested by TOP TIER, a company endorsed by AAA, which rates fuel quality for gasoline and diesel engines. The brands that meet the company's standards will be recognized as a TOP TIER-approved gasoline brand.
