Gasoline prices are hovering at their lowest level since 2021 heading into the July Fourth holiday.  On Wednesday, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline stood at $3.17 per gallon,

U.S. drivers may pay the lowest Independence Day prices for gasoline at the pump since 2021. But whether cheaper fuel prices will stick around for the rest of the summer is a bit harder to predict.

This is the third straight year of declining gas prices, and it's the lowest cost of gas — averaging $3.65 a gallon in the metro area — over the holiday since 2021.
