Two sharks seen swimming near visitors at Rockaway Beach in Queens caused a brief shutdown of the area on the Fourth of July, according to New York City Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Kaz Daughtry. The sharks were spotted along Beach 32nd Street just before 11:30 a.

From small towns to big cities, Fourth of July celebrations, including parades and fireworks, will be held across the U.S. on Friday. One of the largest annual gatherings is the Macy's fireworks event in New York City.

Displays in Lodi Lake, El Dorado, Chico, Cloverdale, and St Helena have all been canceled following an explosion at the warehouse containing fireworks for these events. Seven people are still unaccounted for following the blast, causing the displays to be canceled out of respect for those affected.
