A homeless man seeking warmth in a St. Paul garage died Wednesday when the structure caught fire, marking the city’s third fire death this year — all under the similar circumstances. All three victims died in detached garages.

A garage fire in St. Paul Wednesday night left a person dead, marking the third fire fatality for the city this year.

The detached garage at a home on the 1400 block of Mayre Street was fully engulfed when crews arrived just before 9:30 p.m., the St. Paul Fire Department said.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victims of a fire last weekend on St. Paul’s East Side that engulfed a garage. Frank Allen Piele, 63, and David John Orlando, 39, died in the Feb.
