A jury found former Sangamon County deputy Sean Grayson guilty of second degree murder for the fatal police shooting of Sonya Massey, but her family said the verdict is a miscarriage of justice.
Last year, Sonya Massey, an unarmed Black woman, was killed by a deputy sheriff in her Illinois home after calling 911 for help. The trial for that former officer continues Thursday.
Massey was killed in her home in Springfield, Illinois, last year after she called authorities over concerns about a prowler.
An unidentified Columbus police sergeant shot and killed Ta'Shawn Davis, 18, on Oct. 12. The sergeant was responding to a report of an armed robbery.
