Governor Phil Scott identified David Maland as the fallen officer, extending his “heartfelt condolences to Agent Maland’s family, friends, and colleagues."

The Border Patrol agent was reportedly shot dead by a suspect referred to as a "visa overstay,” who has also been killed.

COVENTRY, Vt. — A U.S. Border Patrol agent was killed Monday in northern Vermont south of the Canadian border, authorities said. The Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a statement that the agent was killed in the line of duty, although it did not provide details.

Teresa Youngblut, 21, of Washington State was identified Friday morning as the second suspect in the fatal shooting of a U.S. Border Patrol Agent in Orleans County this week.
