The Timo Meier breakout is coming, and the New Jersey Devils sure could use it. All signs have been pointing this way, and history has shown, at least since joining the Devils, that Timo Meier is a second-half player.

The New Jersey Devils went a little further south after their trip to Montreal. They made a stop in Philadelphia to take on the Flyers on Jan. 27 before they would head back home.

Meier recorded two assists, two shots on goal, one blocked shot and a plus-2 rating in Wednesday's 5-1 win over the Bruins.

Dawson Mercer scored twice during New Jersey's four-goal second period, and the Devils beat the Boston Bruins 5-1 on Wednesday night.

Bobby Brink, Joel Farabee and Garnet Hathaway scored to help the Flyers build a three-goal lead and they held on to beat the Devils​ 4-2 on Monday.

Morgan Geekie scored for the Bruins (23-20-6), who are 3-1-1 in their past five games. Jeremy Swayman allowed four goals on 29 shots in two periods. He was replaced by Joonas Korpisalo (five saves on six shots) at the start of the third period.

Boston led, 1-0, after the first period, but couldn’t overcome a miserable second in which the Devils scored four times.

Goalie Jake Allen came in cold, but he picked up his first win since Nov. 23 at Washington. He stopped all 16 shots he faced. Allen denied David Pastrnak, a 60-goal scorer, minutes after entering the game. He made a split toe save on Oliver Wahlstrom and robbed Charlie Coyle on a breakaway as well during the game.

Meier scored his 15th goal of the season in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Flyers. His one-timer from the top of the faceoff circle late in the third period got the Devils to within a goal, but they weren't able to get level before a Scott Laughton empty-netter iced the game.

The New Jersey Devils will now be without perhaps their most valuable player as injuries mount. Captain Nico Hischier will miss the Devils' game against the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night with an undisclosed injury,
