Nico Hischier won't suit up against the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday, the Devils confirmed, as he recovers from a recent injury.

Dawson Mercer scored two goals in the second period, Dougie Hamilton had a goal and an assist, and Timo Meier had two assists for the Devils (27-17-6), who are 1-2-2 in their past five games. Jacob Markstrom allowed one goal on seven shots before sustaining an undisclosed injury early in the second period.

The New Jersey Devils got some more bad injury news during Saturday’s overtime win over the Montreal Canadiens. Devils captain Nico Hischier left the game in the third period and was unable to return to the action.

Dawson Mercer scored twice during New Jersey’s four-goal second period, and the Devils beat the Boston Bruins 5-1.

After creating more far offensive chances than the Bruins, the Devils broke through in the second period with four unanswered goals on 17 shots. This included Stefan Noesen and Dawson Mercer scoring just 12 seconds apart from each other.

The New Jersey Devils (26-17-6) will host the Boston Bruins (23-19-6) on Wednesday at the Prudential Center with the puck dropping at 7:00 PM ET.

The Boston Bruins are trying to build some ground to stand on in the crowded  Eastern Conference playoff field but didn’t do themselves any favors on Wednesday night after getting dismantled by the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center by the final score of 5-1.
