WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House is ordering a wide-ranging review of the Smithsonian museums and exhibitions ahead of the country’s 250th birthday with a goal of aligning the institution’s content with President Donald Trump’s interpretation of American history.

The White House has announced a review of some Smithsonian Institution museums to "ensure alignment" with President Donald Trump 's goals. Newsweek has contacted the Smithsonian for comment via email outside regular working hours.

The president signed an executive order this year ordering the removal of "improper ideology" from the museum system.

While introducing members of his Cabinet during the signing of an executive order related to the 2028 Summer Olympics, Trump referred to Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem—who was standing just feet away—as “Cristie Kerr,” the name of a professional golfer.
