Adding two new teams would allow MLB to even the two leagues out at 16 teams apiece, making daily interleague play no longer necessary. It also creates the opportunity for realignment. Manfred hinted at the possibility of wholesale realignment based on geography during an appearance in ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball booth this past weekend.

The Red Wings announced this morning that Sergei Fedorov’s No. 91 will be raised to the rafters at Little Caesars Arena during a pregame celebration on Jan. 12 before a game against the Carolina Hurricanes. Chris Ilitch, Red Wings governor and CEO, called Fedorov on Monday to give him the news.

Number 91 will be among the player numbers retired by the Detroit Red Wings, when Sergei Fedorov is honored in January.

In the playoffs he totaled 50 goals and 113 assists for 163 points in 162 games, which is good for 3rd in Red Wings history. Federov was drafted in the 4th round of the 1989 draft by Detroit. He won three Stanley Cups with the Wings in 1997,
