West Virginia National Guard troops are now being sent to Washington, DC, in an escalation of President Donald Trump’s efforts to federally take over law enforcement in the city.

According to a release from Morrisey's press office, the West Virginia National Guard will deploy troops to the nation's capital "as a show of commitment to public safety and regional cooperation."

President Donald Trump said on Monday he was deploying 800 National Guard troops to Washington and putting the city's police department under federal control, an extraordinary assertion of presidential power in the nation's capital.
