Flooding sent chunks of ice into Michigan homes this week after record snowfall melt and rounds of heavy rain created flooding around the Great Lakes.

Michigan asks flooded residents to report damage to homes and businesses as more storms are on the way.

There’s a lot of wringing of hands” said a Northern Michigan resident. “It’s more water than I’ve ever seen here.”

Threats to Michigan dams, and roads continue Friday, April 17 as flood warnings are active through the weekend. The Cheboygan Dam is holding steady.

By the time he sat down to eat his noodle soup in a makeshift evacuation shelter at a church in Fremont on the evening of Friday, April 17, Douglas Foster said he’d heard from his neighbors that floodwaters inside his home had reached his bedroom window.

A freeze warning is in effect for southeast Michigan until Monday night, with temperatures as low as 23 degrees. Flood warnings continue across other parts of the state.

The lift station prompted a notice to some residents on Cadillac's west side to temporarily limit or stop sanitary sewer usage.
