Tesla removed the Range Extender from its Cybertruck configurator without public explanation. Customers placed $2,000 non-refundable deposits for the now-missing $16,000 battery upgrade.

The range extender was essentially a $16,000 removable battery pack that would have sat in the Cybertruck's bed and extended just how far the vehicle could travel before needing a charge.

The writing was on the wall in April when the range extender was quietly removed from the Cybertruck's online configurator. It had been available to reserve for a non-refundable $2,000 deposit.

The range extender was initially sold as a fix for the Cybertruck's disappointing real-world range performance, adding 120 miles of battery power for a steep $16,000.

The price of the 2026 Tesla Cybertruck starts at $72,235 and goes up to $102,235 depending on the trim and options.

Tesla has canceled its Cybertruck range extender, which was set for a mid-2025 release. The optional battery pack would've extended the distance it could drive before needing to recharge.
