Four wildfires burning in western Colorado have consumed more than 250 square miles, threatened hundreds of homes and forced evacuations, fire officials said.

Gov. Jared Polis declared a disaster emergency on Thursday as wildfires are continuing to burn more than 185,000 acres along the Western Slope.

In total, 24 fires are raging across the state. The ongoing Lee Fire is already the state's fifth-largest in terms of acreage.
