"As of 8:30 a.m., 9.12 inches of water must recede before the Cheboygan Lock and Dam Complex Emergency Action Plan is deactivated," the Michigan State Police Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division said. "Crews are now focusing on the water that is yet to arrive."

While much of the initial concern revolved around the Cheboygan Lock and Dam Complex, serious flooding has struck other parts of the county.
In response to the hazardous conditions caused the historic flooding in Cheboygan, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) closed access points near the dam. The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) also closed specific waterways to boat traffic until May 8,
