PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Fishing industry regulators have decided to scrap stricter new lobster fishing standards off New England in the wake of months of protest from lobster fishermen that the rules were unnecessary and would bankrupt harvesters.
Lobster fishing in LFA 24, which covers a large area along P.E.I.’s north shore, had been scheduled to begin on Saturday, April 25. But due to the expected weather forecast and more dredging needing to get done at some wharfs, the decision has been made to delay putting out traps until at least Tuesday, April 28.
