According to the Associated Press, another death was reported in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, located near the U.S.-Mexico border — bringing the death toll up to at least four. The extreme rainfall also pummeled parts of northeastern Mexico, with the region seeing between 7 and 12 inches of rain, according to AP.

South Texas worked to dry out on Friday after severe thunderstorms a day earlier flooded streets, forced the closure of an airport and compelled dozens of water rescues as many drivers were forced to abandon their vehicles on roads and parking lots as some areas were inundated with more than a foot of rain.

Abandoned vehicles littered submerged roads across South Texas’ Rio Grande Valley Thursday and Friday after over half year’s worth of rain - approaching a full year’s worth in some places - forced dozens of water rescues near the US-Mexico border.
