PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — ICE is defending its agents after a controversial arrest in Providence Thursday. A spokesperson for the agency said the subject has a previous arrest record. Protesters outside Rhode Island hospital on Thursday said they that ICE used a taser while arresting a man that morning.

The man, who had a interview for his green card scheduled the day ICE detained him, was brought to Rhode Island Hospital, where his attorney was not allowed to speak with him.

Rhode Island leaders are calling for transparency after dozens gathered Thursday to protest an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainment in Providence.
