Real Madrid “firmly rejects” having a regular-season Spanish league game played in the United States and has warned of “a turning point in the world of football.”

Real Madrid issue a statement to strongly reject plans to play Villarreal's La Liga match with Barcelona in the United States, saying it "sets an unacceptable precedent".

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) officially approved La Liga's pitch on Monday, which would see the match moved from Villarreal's Estadio de la Ceramica to Hard Rock Stadium in the Miami suburb of Miami Gardens.

A man has died in a wildfire north of Madrid, as Spain faces a brutal heatwave. Broadcaster RTVE reported that the man, aged around 50, was found with severe burns on Monday evening in the Tres Cantos municipality and died shortly afterwards in hospital.
