GRAND RAPIDS, MI - After nine days, the trial of former police officer Christopher Schurr ended with a mistrial, after the jury hopelessly deadlocked on the second-degree murder charge. The decision by Kent County Circuit Judge Christina Mims to declare a mistrial came after around 20 hours of deliberation by the jury.

A judge has declared a mistrial after the jury remained deadlocked in the murder trial of an ex-Grand Rapids police officer.

The jury deadlocked in the trial of Christopher Schurr, who testified that he feared for his life when he fatally shot Patrick Lyoya during a traffic stop in Grand Rapids, Mich., in 2022.
