CA chief executive Todd Greenberg expressed "disappointment" that the final could not be played at Adelaide Oval

Cricket Australia has expressed its disappointment that Australian Rules team the Adelaide Crows refused South Australia permission to host the Sheffield Shield final at Adelaide Oval later this month.

Discussions have been held between SA's premier and the Australian Football League to have the game played at Adelaide Oval in the week between football fixtures

South Australia will host the Sheffield Shield final at Karen Rolton Oval after the AFL blocked a push for the showpiece event to be held at Adelaide Oval. Cricket hierarchy and SA Premier Peter Malisnauskas had been pushing for the match to be played at the iconic venue on March 24-28, which falls in between AFL matches.

An Adelaide Oval Sheffield Shield final wedged between two AFL games at the same venue is “gaining momentum” according to Redbacks coach Ryan Harris after his team secured a shot at a first title since 1996.

The AFL tried to get the entire year’s fees relating to the Footy Express waived in exchange for the Sheffield Shield final to be played at Adelaide Oval.

Adelaide Oval is being eyed as the venue for the upcoming Sheffield Shield final, originally scheduled from March 26-30. The prestigious cricket match could be hosted at the venue after South Australia booked their place in the final by beating Victoria.

A decision is expected to be made tomorrow on whether the Sheffield Shield final will be played at the Adelaide Oval. The South Australian means cricket team has won the right to host the five-day event,
