Columbia University’s interim president Katrina Armstrong said she is leaving her position, ending a tumultuous tenure that was marked by confrontation with the Trump administration and outcry from faculty and students over the school’s response.

Columbia University has appointed Claire Shipman, a co-chair of its board of trustees, as acting president of the institution targeted by the Trump administration with major federal funding cuts. Why it matters: President Trump's administration pulled some $400 million in federal grants and contracts from the school over allegations of antisemitism during pro-Palestinian protests on the campus.

Katrina Armstrong, Columbia University's interim president, is being replaced by Claire Shipman. The university did not offer an explanation for the change in leadership.
